More Than Half of San Diego Marketing, Sales Execs Expect to Change Jobs Next Year
TurningPoint Executive Search’s 2014 Q4 study of San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles sales and marketing executive trends notes that between 55 and 85 percent of executives in such fields will change jobs within the next 12 months. With those moves will come a 12 – 20 percent increase in salaries, according to the firm.
“Over the past 3 months, we conducted a variety of searches across a number of industries and company structures. Our volume of outbound calls and emails to prospective candidates has been steadily rising since the end of 2013,” said Ken Schmitt, Founder and CEO of TurningPoint Executive Search. “As these searches demonstrated, the ‘war for great talent’ is continuing to heat up.”
The study leveraged TurningPoint’s database of marketing and sales executives that consists of more than 20,000 contacts and its nationwide referral network. The analysis also took into account published works by LinkedIn, Careerbuilder and other public reports.
The Q4 study also noted that as the economy continues to improve and companies commit to expanding their employee ranks, the “A Players” are no longer content to change jobs for a lateral offer. The best candidates are not only weighing multiple offers, they are also receiving counter offers, according to TurningPoint.
“We also discovered that sales and marketing professionals with 10 – 20 years of experience are staying in their jobs for an average of just over three years,” said Schmitt. “The more seasoned professionals, those with 20 or more years of experience, had average tenures that were more than four years. Interestingly, these numbers were consistent across different functions and industries: technology and hospitality, and marketing and sales.”
